On a hot summer day, there is nothing quite as refreshing as the taste of milk tea combined with bite-sized tapioca balls to cool you down. How did someone come up with this _(1)_ idea? In the early 1980s, anemployee at Chun Shui Tang Teahouse in Taichung started experimenting with adding different kinds of fruits, syrups, and yams to tea. _(2)_, she put tapioca balls in the bottom of the cup and nicknamed it pearl milk tea. Around the same time in Tainan, the owner of Hanlin Teahouse was working on expanding his recipes and developed _(3)_ he also called pearl milk tea.

While many people in southern Taiwan liked pearl milk tea, it didn't really _(4)_ everywhere until a Japanese television show profiled the Chun Shui Tang Teahouse. Soon, people of all ages were lining up for this strange _(5)_ of eating and drinking. Other teashops copied Chun's idea and added small pieces of candy or jelly to the tea. Recently, teashop owners have even been adding colored tapioca balls to milk tea to _(6)_ customers andbe different from other shops.
Pearl milk tea is one of Taiwan's most famous treasures, and many people around the world drink it _(7)_ they can get their hands on a cup. Bubble teashops have been opened in places with big Asian populations like California, Toronto, New York, and even some countries in Europe.

  4. ..., it didn't really catch on everywhere until a Japanese television show profiled the Chun Shui Tang Teahouse.
